From August 12th to 17th, 2024, a collaborative field excursion was organized as part of the EIS project and clustering with Västernorrland geological mapping team at SGU in Sweden. Partners from Luleå University of Technology (LTU), Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), and the Swedish Geological Survey (SGU) visited lithium pegmatite localities across central Sweden and Finland. This trip, part of the development of mineral systems models, and providing data for the EIS tool, focused on deepening the understanding of lithium pegmatite mineral systems in the Bothnian Basin and Ostrobothnia region.

The field excursion facilitated knowledge exchange on pegmatite geological settings and mineral system modeling. Participants, including trip leaders Joel Andersson (LTU), Edward Lynch (LTU), Martiya Sadeghi (SGU), and Janne Kuusela (GTK), visited key lithium pegmatite localities which highlighted vital geological criteria suitable for lithium exploration in Europe, a critical resource for the EU’s green transition. The trip demonstrated the power of collaboration between academia and geological institutions to further research into sustainable resource exploration.
